James Hollis

James Hollis, 66, of Zavalla was born on September 20, 1957 in Baytown to the late Genevieve (Webb) and Olen Goff and passed away on January 3, 2024 at his residence.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, with his family being his proudest accomplishment.  He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor, always ready with a sly comment to make others smile.  James deeply cherished his extended family, especially his nieces and nephews, whom he watched grow up and flourish.  He was also known for his kindness and willingness to help those in need.

In his career, James served as a Generator Foreman for KBR/Halliburton for 7 years in Baghdad, Iraq.  He later worked as an Operator at Kinder Morgan, where he retired. James enjoyed various hobbies, including hunting, fishing, working around his small farm, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren and was a member of the Solid Rock Baptist Church.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Debbie Hollis; his loving children, Timothy & wife, Briana Hollis and Charleston Hollis; his adored grandchildren, Avery and Olen Hollis; his caring siblings, Linda Batson, Joyce Crain, Curtis Hollis, Charles Franklin, Earlene Faircloth, and Sandra Britt; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by siblings, Edward Hollis, Imogene Adams, Daniel “Dago” Franklin, Mary Smith, and Jean Cannon; and nephews, James Allen Goff and Kevin Crain.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Solid Rock Baptist Church in Zavalla with Brother Jackson Colwell officiating.  Interment followed in the Concord Cemetery in Zavalla.  The family received friends and loved ones from 9 a.m. until service time at the Church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to the Angelina Alliance for Children, also known as Harold’s House, 109 Temple Blvd., Lufkin, TX 75901.

Thanks to all that was able to join us in remembering and celebrating the life of James Hollis.
