Funeral service for Gilbert “Gil” “Pops” Harper, 75, of Huntington was held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 in the Huntington Fire Department (Main St. and W. Pecan St.) with Brother Lamar Denby officiating immediately followed by Masonic Rites. Mr. Harper was born February 8, 1937 in Austin to the late Una (Ward) and Gilbert M. Harper and died January 8, 2013 in a local hospital after attaining the age of 75 years and 11 months.
Mr. Harper was retired State Fire Marshal Investigator, a member of the Ora Volunteer Fire Department since 1993, a member of the Hill City Masonic Lodge #456, A.F. & A.M. in Austin, and loved woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Harper of Huntington; sons, Todd Craft and Troy Craft; daughter, Melody Kollar, all of Ohio; sister, Michelle Parriott of Austin; and numerous adopted children and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelly Ruap; and a brother, Buddy Harper.
Casketbearers were the Ora Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation was held at 4:00 p.m. until service time Friday in the Huntington Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ora Volunteer Fire Department.
Following the service, cremation arrangements were under the direction of Snead Linton Funeral Home.
